Love You to Death The Unofficial Companion to the Vampire Diaries Crissy Calhoun 9781550229783 Books
I started with ordering the first 3, used & cheap, because I wasn't sure what to expect....I was worried it would literally just be re-caps of each episodes, things that every TVD viewer already knew, and honestly, I was worried it would just be redundant. I received Season 3's "Love You to Death" in the mail first (unfortunately), and started reading it instantly. It wasn't the redundancy I worried about, and before I knew it, I was 70-some pages in!!! I received this one, Season 1, just a few days later and put down Season 3 so I could start from the beginning. This series of books is a MUST HAVE for every true Vampire Diaries fan (which I am....everyone who knows me knows not to even call me on Thursdays between 8-9pm)!! It doesn't just re-cap the episodes, scene for scene. It does explain what happens in the episodes, but it goes deeper. If you are a true fan of the show, buy this!!!! Trust me, you won't regret it!!!!! I can't wait for Seasons 2, 4 and 5 to show up in my mailbox....and I can't wait for Season 6 to be written!!!!Tags : Love You to Death: The Unofficial Companion to the Vampire Diaries [Crissy Calhoun] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. <P>Go deep into the heart of Mystic Falls with this episode-by-episode look at the first season of The Vampire Diaries Premiering in the thick of the vampire craze,Crissy Calhoun,Love You to Death: The Unofficial Companion to the Vampire Diaries,ECW Press,1550229788,Television actors and actresses,GENERAL,General Adult,Non-Fiction,PERFORMING ARTS Television Guides & Reviews,Performing Arts,Performing Arts Acting & Auditioning,Performing ArtsDance,Pop Arts Pop Culture,Reference,TELEVISION PLAYS AND PROGRAMS,Television,Television - Guides & Reviews,United States,Vampire diaries (Television program)
Love You to Death The Unofficial Companion to the Vampire Diaries Crissy Calhoun 9781550229783 Books Reviews
Serious fans of "The Vampire Diaries" should not be without this book! Crissy again provides fabulous detail about the TV favorite show along with her insightful analysis. Crissy's "Love You to Death" series is not just a simple re-hash of the TV show's addictive episodes (though that's there for trivia buffs and great fodder for social media discussions). Each episode is detailed with thoughtful standout moments and characters, with special emphasis on the sometimes tongue-in-cheek episode titles, drawing from famous literature, classic movies, or even song lyrics--Crissy gives you the backstory on these namesakes! Short bios of actors as new characters are introduced, off-camera moments, set decoration funsies, reminders of how the storyline draws back to previous seasons, and those head-scratchers that may have come up along the line--great stuff! Ever wanted a complete list of the great music used in the series? Got it! Want insight into director/writer/editor/producer thoughts? Got 'em! A handy-dandy timeline of "The Vampire Diaries" world as we know it from the year oh, say, 975 to 2012? Got it! There's even a quick and dirty one-liner recap of the first two seasons for those "when did that happen?" moments! I keep these books alongside my Season DVDs right on the shelf!
"Love You To Death" is an episode guide to the first season of the popular television show, The Vampire Diaries. This book reminds me of spark notes to season one of the show.
Book Set-Up
*First, the book starts with an intro on how each episode is summarized and set-up. The next chapter provides a bit of information about the writer of the Vampire Diaries book series, L.J. Smith, and tons of info about the shows creators.
*Next is a section of bios on the major characters/cast of TVD, from how their careers started to where they grew up, there are several bits of information on each each actor/actress.
*Next is the main part of the book, the episode guide. The guide is outlined episode by episode with the same questions and categories answered about each one. There is also random information thrown in throughout the episodes summaries about behind-the-scenes, related books and movies that the episodes drew inspiration from, minor character bios and more.
*In the middle of the guide is 9 full page, colored pictures of the main characters along with a few quotes from the show.
*The last sections of the book includes three interviews and a time-line. The first interview is with the writers of a book called, "A Visitor's Guide To Mystic Falls," which is a collection of TVD essays. The next interview is with one of the extras who works on The Vampire Diaries show, who tells us what it's like working the main characters as well as how it feels to watch the show in the making. The last interview is with TVD cast member Malese Jow, aka Anna.
*The last section of the book is a time-line in which Calhoun tries to place together each event, going all the way back to the 1400's, from the first season of The Vampire Diaries.
The episode summaries are very well done and organized. If you are a reader of the TVD book series, you will love that the author brings up events from the novels and shows how certain events in the show are both alike and different from the events in The Vampire Diaries novels. I really liked the behind-the-scenes parts and the character interview with Anna. The related books and TV show bits were very well used to break-up the episode summaries as well show all the inspiration the show draws from similar works, which makes the book seem more informative overall. I would have loved if there were more cast interviews and I think the only thing missing from this guide is a small section where the entire season is summarized as a whole, as well Calhoun's overall thoughts - That would have been a nice addition after reading the individual episode summaries.
Overall, I think this is a very handy guide to read after you watch the first season of The Vampire Diaries. "Love You to Death" not only summarizes each TV episode, but gives you other information about the characters, creators, and the shows inspirations.
Just like the three books proceeding it, Crissy Calhoun's Love You to Death, Season Four, is a must have for any die hard Vampire Diaries' fan. Calhoun digs deep into each episode, breaking it down to give her readers her unique insight into the shows characters and plot.
Love You to Death is one of those books that you'll turn to again and again. Just as I watch The Vampire Diaries over and over, I always have my set of Crissy Calhoun's books close by, reading each chapter as I watch the corresponding episode. It's fun to look into what she's written to see if she shares my thoughts on character motivation or if a plot development is as shocking to her as it is to me. Calhoun's episode analysis also includes what she found to be the episodes compelling moment, what she refers to as "foggy" moments (plot holes, continuity issues) and even a song list for each show.
As a Vampire Diaries' fan, I wouldn't be without this book or the entire series. Five stars all the way.
