This book is awesome! I remembered reading it from when I was a child. It had such a large impact on me, that I never forgot the story. It took me years of off and on trying but I finally figured out the title. All I remembered was Max: The dog...something along those lines. Well, I bought it and let me children read it and they are as enamored with it as I am.Tags : Max: The Dog That Refused to Die [Kyra Petrovskaya Wayne, Kyrap Wayne, Becky Bristow] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Max The Dog That Refused to Die Kyra Petrovskaya Wayne Kyrap Wayne Becky Bristow 9780931866029 Books Reviews
I read this book because my friend recommened it. Dobermans are my favorite breed of dogs, so enjoyed reading it.
It's about a Dobie (Doberman Pinscher) named Max who wanders away from his owners while on vacation in the Sierras. He was chasing a squirrel when he fell from a cliff. His owners call and search for him, but give up. They finally end up believing that he is dead, and return home.
Meanwhile, Max is trying to survive. Will he survive? Or wil he finally die of hunger and dehydration? You have to read to find out. This book is a real tearjerker and made me cry in several parts.
I recommend it to anyone, especially for those who have a dog.
A charming book about a dog who after going out with his family found himself in a situation that just seemed to get worse. The author takes us on what she thinks may have happened to her dog and what it took to get him back home then onto the road of recovery.
The writing is short and easy so good for young readers even while moving back and forth from the family to the dog. The beautiful detailed illustrations, especially the one with the coyotes, are just the right prescription to break-up the darkness of the story.
First of all I know this is a vintage book so things somewhat change and then again they don't. What I don't like about the book isn't really as much an issue with the books as with the views of the family - cropping for beauty's sake, showing, breeding, etc. It makes the author seem just a bit on the barbaric side, especially when in afterthought she mourns the fact that they weren't able to breed their dobies since of the recovery and danger that was needed by Max. In my case I would have been happy to have two somewhat healthy dogs instead of just the one but this is all my own opinion against theirs.
Otherwise the story is inspiring while making a warm spot in your heart for those who are always willing to help even when it isn't right in the eyes of society.....
I am so happy with and the ability to buy anything you need. I have been looking for this book for 2 decades at libraries and local bookstores. On a whim I tried at and I found it. I also found several copies of the Velveteen Rabbit and Are You There God, It's me Margaret. I am now sharing my favorites with my 11 year old daughter. Reliable shipping and excellent prices--I'll always find my books here!
Been reading this book to my daughter and CRYING A LOT. This is an amazing story of compassion, hope, love, devotion, courage and strength. Maxie, we totally love you!!
A rellay inspiring story about a doberman and his will to live and the live aroudn him.
My third grade teacher read this to our class, and I have never forgotten it. I've thought about this book for years and finally searched for a used copy to read to my children. To be perfectly honest, it did not quite hold up to my expectations. I seemed to remember a lot more action in the book. It is also a little dated. However, it is a sweet story that any animal lover would appreciate.
I read this book when I was a kid, and I ordered it for my daughter's 8th birthday so she too could enjoy the story! She loved it and told me she wanted to keep it forever. Weeks later, my Mom pulled a box from her attic and low 'n' behold, there was MY copy of Max The Dog That Refused to Die!! Now my daughter has BOTH copies in a special place in her bookshelf!
